Does that mean we can dispense with the Puerto Rican Day Parade, the St. Patrick's Parade, and most of the others? Especially the big ones that snarl traffic, generate tons of trash, and result in drunks reeling down the street?

That would be nice but it won't happen.
What cracks me up about these parade as people wave the flags and act all proud. Then after the weekend they don't show their country pride again till next year.

Well it shouldn't take a "holiday" to show something, you should all year round.
Same for birthdays, xmas, mothers and fathers day you should show love and an appreciate all year round.

Puerto Ricans would still get their parade, since they are not immigrants. We could then add parades for American Samoa and Guam, etc.

Just kidding, I hate parades. Let's start eliminating, not adding.

What are they supposed to do, act stereotypically Puerto Rican or Jamaican the whole year round?

This is kind of the point of these parades -- to show cultural or country pride, show off their traditions, costumes and music. Also I'm not sure how you would know they are not showing their country pride til the following year. I see plenty of Colombian flags all over the place in my area pretty much the whole year.

And the Puerto Rican flags that hang from windows in every Puerto Rican neighborhood. You see some Mexican flags too.

Italian flags are also a common sight in Italian neighborhoods, ditto Irish
