Hi. I am looking for areas around NYC that has a good danish presence and danish culture. Reason why is my brother in law just moved here from Denmark and I would like to help him out by showing him areas that have pieces of home just incase he gets home sick or wants a cultural fix.

Restaurants and stores would be great, and i would really like to know of towns or areas that have a good concentration of Danish people.

^ Still a lot of Norwegians in Bay Ridge, but they're mostly 3rd or 4th generation now so they're not overtly Norwegian.

As for Danish communities, I don't think there really are any honestly. At least not with a significant enough concentration.

Go hang around the offices of the Danish engineering firm Arup. 77 Water Street. You're bound to meet someone from Denmark sooner or later.

For more Danish culture, just celebrate the Fourth of July:

There's the Scandinavia House and the Danish Church in Cobble Hill. (I don't think you have to be particularly religious for the Danish Church activities)

Sunset Park in Brooklyn is still home to the Danish Athletic Club. I am not sure what is still there. In general, most Scandinavians in NYC lived in Brooklyn. Many moved to the suburbs of NYC following WWII.

The Danish Seaman's Church is still a Danish cultural center. https://dskny.org/

My boyfriend is Swedish and has several Scandi friends but there aren’t really any Danish or Scandinavian areas in nyc. There are, however, some businesses and events that he may want to check out if seeking other Danes or some comforts from home (the Scandinavia House and the Danish Church are two that come to mind).

I know my BF likes to go to the Swedish church even though he’s atheist because he gets to speak/hear Swedish. The church has a store where he buys Swedish candy and the church holds many social secular events. For example I joined him at the church one evening for a herring party celebrating Swedish National Day. I also remember him going to some Danish events with his Danish friend though at the moment I can’t recall the specific events.

Solvang and Buellton in California are the only places in the USA of which I am aware that have a real Danish cultural vibe.
