Lots of California plates in NYC - specifically Manhattan and Northern Brooklyn. (Maryland: rental car, rentals)

Didn’t want to make a thread right away but I’ve noticed this for the past month and in the past month I’ve seen more Cali plates in these areas than typical plates like Virginia/Maryland/Carolinas etc.
Clearly PA, NJ, FL are everywhere but Cali has been popping out a lot.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a good amount are rental cars but a lot of them were not rentals.
Anyone else notice?
P.S - I saw two today. One was a Tesla and the other Benz Small SUV.
People traveling cross country to see relatives is not as weird as you may think. Could it be the tent people, coming in caravans, to take advantage of NYCs benifits to Americans?
Most people are trying to get out of Cali and the SJW politics that infest it.
