How hot is it in your apartments right now? My thermostat says 92.
55 degrees. I refuse to live like an animal in this heat. I'll pay the extra $20/mo to come home to a cold place. My heat tolerance is so terrible that I generally go out a lot less during the summer than the winter.
I remember growing up too how I wanted a warmer climate. I think I just wanted less brutal winters as I can't stand summer (Chicago).
Wearing shorts/tees in NYC is extremely unhealthy because you are exposed to both the damaging sun and all sorts of pollutants in the air that can cause various unwanted health issues (including impotency if that is relevant to your QOL...).
I wear nothing but dresses with no sleeves and way above my knees all summer long and have been for many many years. I'm not dead yet so I'm pretty sure wearing a t-shirt and shorts is fine.....
I can remember the days when the subway didn't have air conditioning. Just open windows and maybe a fan on the ceiling of the car in some really old cars.
Everybody was sweating. If you were sitting the people standing in front of you would be dripping sweat down. The open windows and the noise of the subway made my ears ring when I first started riding the subway it was so loud. This is also when there didn't seem to be any speed limit for the subway. They changed that one year after a few derailments, but at least the #4 train would whip around the corners so fast everyone in the car would be thrown around.

it is not a matter of life/death, but a matter of quality of life, like the "impotency" issue among many others that matter to one's quality of life in late years.
no people die from smoking cigs acutely, but many smokers suffer lung dysfunctions and lung cancer that make them miserable years later. does this make sense to you now?
