I just took the subway from 145th and St Nicholas on Sunday at 2:15a, you'll be fine. If you're on the west side of Washington Heights, you're completely fine. That portion of Washington Heights is really good. If you're north of 181st, you're even better off.
That ABCD 145th St stop is fine. The far north, far underground ones I'd be a little more careful with late at night, simply because you have to take the elevator--you can't just book your way out of trouble.
Take a page from my book, live your life to your liking, do as you please, dont be stupid though and know your surroundings. However at the end of the day someday you will die, so if I get killed coming home at 4am the train ehhh at least I had a good last night out.
