I suppose you can send all the nasty emails you want, provided you don't threaten or harass. But I don't see what good it will do. Are you sure the nuns are the ones who are making the real estate decisions? I'm guessing they are not really the ones in control of this situation.

In any case, NYC real estate is a dirty game. For those that have been here a long time, I can never understand why these long time residents didn't figure out the name of the game a long time ago and score one of the nice rent stabilized (or controlled if they've been here that long) units to live out their days in peace without the threat of being kicked out.

This is the same situation with my brother-in-law's relative. She's been in NYC for eons but never thought to question the fact that she was on a month to month lease in one of these women-only SRO's? She should have sought out more stability a long time ago. But hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

It's likely because those SRO places are DIRT cheap most of the time. I knew a lady who recently died who lived in one. She was in her 80s and her rent was something like $300 a month (maybe less)!! Granted it wasn't a full apartment but still. People would kill for that. At that price living there as long as she did, some simply think that it's worth the gamble.
