Eh, they just put the extra cost on the customers. What’s killing nyc restaurant owners is actually the increasing rents

How did they differentiate among the effects of minimum wage, massive rent spikes, and a more competitive restaurant environment where there are a lot more varied offerings?

Yes and no; there is a natural limit to what most persons will pay for anything, depending of course if it is inelastic or elastic.

Union square’s Coffee shop closing ?! That’s unfortunate, I’ve taken many a visitor there.

I recall going to Dig Inn in January 2018 - they raised prices since 2017. I asked what the reason was, the answer was because the minimum wage increase took effect in Jan. I knew this mattered to the restaurants ever since.

I'm curious to know if these restaurant workers (particularly wait staff) are worse off with the minimum wage hike than they were when they relied primarily on tips. I know that I wouldn't be leaving tips if I know that I am paying more for my meal so that the restaurant can pay a "living wage."

many restaurants have a 15% service charge , like a gratuity added automatically .

but this money is really not for tips . it just goes to the company cash register and they are free to divvy it up among the staff-or not .

it has to say service charge on the menu when they do this and not gratuity to be legal .

even if the staff gets a portion it is a poor deal for them as now it is part of their pay and has fica and other taxes taken out .

Wait so waitresses are making $15/hr plus tips? I noticed prices have been going up a little so I’ve been ordering seamless and buying from places that have offers like 25-35% off. Go on the app and look at “trending offers”
