So I finally moved to NYC (Sorta) (Benson: real estate, cheap apartment)

How do you guys do it? I'm Having a hard time coping with the fact that I would have to have a roommate in order to survive or not live in the projects. What a sad way to live. 1200-1800 To rent a room is uncanny! And to top it all off, Everyone drives like demonic bats.
Pros and cons man, pros and cons.
Im still debating on whether I should stay or not.

You very easily could have your own studio or 1 bedroom for the price but my guess is you are focused on living in a certain area.
You can VERY easily live here with out roommate(s) and not living in the projects if you can afford that much in rent.
If you aren't rich you need to decide what is most import to you with your living situation.
Pick the ones the matter most, you can't get them all.
1.Live alone/roommate(s)
2. Location
3. Type of apt-new/old
4.Near subway/walk able
5.Amenties in the area
6.Amenties in the building-super, washer/dryer. elevator, gym,

Move to Staten Island, anywhere along Hylan Blvd. You can easily afford a 1 bedroom apartment, take the express bus to work, own a car and have a life. You can spend all the time you want to in Manhattan. No need to live there.
Are you sold on staying in nyc? The only way to make it is to find a place not yet popular, get a cheap apartment then hope it starts booming. I heard Detroit is up and coming. It’s cheap to start a business there and rent is so cheap.
Did you say something about getting a project apartment? The waitlist is years and certain people get priority such as domestic violence victims, homeless, needy families, households with elderly or disabled, etc. Even housing lotteries take years
I would tell the OP about South Brooklyn, but it sounds like he's convinced the entire city costs like it does in West Village.
In some ways, awesome! We need more people to advocate for the insane cost of rent/real estate. However, I'd like a bit more realism in those arguments. I'm fairly sure there are still 2bds, and maybe even a few 3bds that are below $2k in Bensonhurst at least.
