MTA saw ridership numbers down Uber and Lyft is to blame

"MTA has presented data showing that lower New York City mass transit use numbers matched up with an uptick in taxi and ride-hailing trips. Even as the city’s population grows, subway and bus ridership has been declining. New York City Transit Executive Vice President Tim Mulligan explained in a presentation Monday how dips in weekday subway ridership between 2016 and 2017 coincided with increased use of taxi and for-hire vehicles."

"Neighborhoods farthest from lower Manhattan saw the heftiest increase in for-hire vehicle rides. Subway ridership within the Bronx and Queens fell by 8.2 percent and 6.6 respectively, between May 2017 and May 2018."

Blame everyone but your ****ty service for the people finding another way than the MTA way.

Blame Uber, Lyft, Via, CitiBike, Electric skateboards, human feet, yellow taxis, personal cars, work from home.

if MTA was a true private corporation, they would have been bankrupt 50x over.

lower ridership= lower revenue. I hope they layoff more workers. Unions will cry a river

We are delayed because of train traffic. Please be patient.

As city becoming more populated people will seek other ways of public transportation especially if the public transportation company is inept and the infrastructure is extremely outdated with repairs, updates taking decades to complete and a workforce that commands huge salaries with overtime.

I only hear that at least one time during my commute. The evening commute home. I carpool in the AM to the gym and then Uberpool or ViaPool to the office.

I noticed if you leave work at 4;30pm and take a train pre-rush hour it is so much faster, more spacious, etc.

depends on the train lines. Some lines are full of sweaty smelly day laborers at 3-5pm. Some LIRR lines are full of sweaty smelly construction workers 3-5pm.
