I'm pretty sure it was built to hold drills, not to warehouse ammunition though certainly some ammunition needed to be warehoused. It was basically built for a large number of people to do coordinated physical activity.
2. The building was originally built to stockpile ammunition. I'll tell you what, at the grand opening, we'll make a miniature replica of it in the lobby and have it on display forever there, and the corporate office will call that Costco "the Armory branch." Its a win-win, developers get paid, community gets jobs (Costco is a great employer), and people get good food. Middle class and lower class will rave over it. Costco even takes EBT for those who receive it.
No, make it an ice palace for people from Tokyo to come and skate, so 7.5 billion people worldwide (some of which are looking to place their business somewhere) focus more attention on the Bronx. Open a Costco at the future Metro North train station by all means, but not in a historic building. A historic building needs a historic purpose. Okay seriously, I HAVE to run to do something, I CAN'T talk any more, seriously :-).
Maybe they should make it the world's largest 24/7 Eyes Wide Shut themed orgy center. NYC residents get in on a discount; make additional money off the streams, concessions, and paraphernalia.
The best parts of the Bronx look just like Westchester
The worst parts of Westchester look just like the Bronx.
OMG... That is SO true... Never thought about that either, but Mount Vernon in parts sure as hell looks like it could be in the South Bronx... Slightly less urban but that's about it. Feel wise I agree...

And I don't know if you knew of this, but the old armory in San Francisco WAS indeed bought by a porn-production company, and they DO shoot their films there, and DO host the parties that you mention! I don't know how good the purchase was for rhem financially, but as far as I know they still own the armory :-).

Actually, I agreed with you agreeing on the ice rink :-). The orgies are hmmmm a bit too much of a niche interest - the armory in San Francisco is much smaller and far less architecturally important than the one in the Bronx, so one can see how it might be useful for ordinary purposes (in San Francisco orgies are more ordinary than Costco). But a truly historic building needs a worldwide purpose.
And a small correction re San Francisco armory: I just looked it up, and it appears the porn company (that owned the armory for about 10 years) sold it in January (for a huge profit), because they started losing money on orgies. The building is being repurposed for "manufacturing". Not sure what they will be manufacturing. There you go, OyCrumbler, manufacturing is more profitable than orgies, who would think? Anyway, my last word is indeed the ice rink.

You think they built the world's largest armory for people to do jumping jacks?
If I had a drink I would have spilled it.
Seriously though, it was for weapons storage, read it
