What are peoples thoughts on Atlantic Ave by Boerum and Cobble Hill?

It seems like its only getting nicer and is a good place to buy with the convenience of everything close by.

Any insight into safety and the area right by Atlantic Ave? Thanks

Pretty much agree. It's fine all the way from the water to at least the Atlantic Center, but best from Hicks to Hoyt or so. For a number of blocks south of Atlantic, there are no major safety concerns to speak of except that there are some desolate blocks and projects to the east of the canal, near 3rd Av and Nevins. North of Atlantic, it is prime real estate from the water to Court, a little more deserted at night with commercial blocks from Court/Boerum to Flatbush, though there are some nice blocks on State St. in this stretch. Nothing to worry about really.

What about your feeling with the HOD?

I really like Boerum Place between Schmerhorn and State and think that is a good building as an investment?

the house of detention was there before boerum/cobble hill became gentrified, and its not going away. it has to be there because thats where all the courts are. now the people bought their million dollar townhouses they want the thing removed knowing fully well the area where they bought.

So true. It was there aand there was no complaints until the area became gentrified. Due to the area that it is in, like you said, it needs to be there. Plus, it really should not cause any problems for the residents in the neighborhood. Not like there is going to be a mass breakout and the inmates are going to run wild.

To answer the original poster, Atlantic Avenue in that area is nice. You have a good amount of Middle Eastern stores, if you are into shopping there plus you have Court Street which is filled with restaurants and bars. Brooklyn Heights is right there, and you have Montague Street and the Promenade. Plus, you have the movie theatre, Barnes and Noble, you are close to the downtown Brooklyn shopping area (if you want to shop there). The Borough Hall train station has a multitude of trains running through there and you are still close enough to walk to the A, C, and F train. Plus, you have buses on top of buses that stop somewhere in the area.

Atlantic Avenue is a very nice area. It has become unaffordable, though.

The House of Detention has NO impact at all in that area!!!!! NONE!!!!!!

Take it from someone who used to jog on Alanic* Ave everyday!!!!!!!!

*(In Brooklynese, it's pronounced "Alanic")
