Why would you run for an elected position and try to hide stuff/ mislead people? You should know that your opposition would be digging up every bit of dirt they can to discredit you.
Ain't no way in hell she got the right to win. This is why people gotta turn out in numbers greated than like 7 to 8% to vote. Of course, Crowley being one of those outdated Tammany Hall types made it real easy even for her to win.

The term that’s used for people like Salazar is converso, the people who had Sephardic ancestors who converted centuries ago to Catholicism because otherwise they were going to get killed. You’re talking about 500 years ago, so pretty much everyone in the Iberian peninsula has a Sephardic ancestor and ditto Latin America.

What I do like about this is how identies are created by governments for political purposes. Israel itself has funded research into cryptoJews/conversos because this is a potential huge new source of Jews for them.

All 48 million Spaniards and 400 million Latinos all have Sephardic heritage?
That's cool if lots of Spaniards and Latinos who discover they have Sephardic heritage, their families were conversos or marranos, or whatever, want to convert to Judaism.
But not if they want to use their newfound Jewish identity for political gain.
I'm not to big on Jewish history. But the worst things that happened was the destruction of the Jewish 2nd temple in 72 Ad, the Jewish revolt under the reign of the Spanish Roman emperor Hadrian, who expelled jews out of Judea, and renamed the area Palestinea which is Greek for Palestine. Expulsion from Spain 1492 under the decree of Isabela and Ferdinand of the United Spanish Kingdom. Holocaust in nazi Germany. And last post Lenin reign of the Soviet Union which was very antisemitic even though much of the soviets prior to Stalin were mostly jews. Much of the Soviet pilotburo was Jewish, than came along Stalin who removed top jews for their positions. Stalin going forward was either antisemitic or anti zionist.
