After Election, More New Yorkers Tell Volunteer Groups, ‘I Can Help’
New York Cares reported a 137 percent increase in would-be volunteers just in the week after the election, compared with the same week in November 2015....
The national report said volunteers tended to be people who were older, native-born English speakers and college-educated, and owned their own homes and had higher incomes.
That describes me. I have done volunteer work off and on since HS. Nothing major in my case. I have done things like help kids with reading and school work when I was in college. I read to seniors. My wife voluntered holding babies, so they could feel human touch, if they were to be otherwise with out it for a time. We both also would donate blood. Its makes you feel good. Everyone can do something, even if only a few weeks every few years.

That's nice. I've mostly volunteers for arts groups. I also investigated volunteering to read to children in hospitals and to be in a literacy program, but their requirements were so problematic that I gave up on those.
The thing that surprised me most in the article was that some people gave as a reason for not volunteering, that nobody asked! With so much going on, and with so much information about volunteering in the news - someone needs to be personally asked?
I would like to volunteer at a tidday massage clinic. Any clinics in Manhattan?
Let's say if i were to receive a tax deductible for volunteering i would be all over it.
Also, depending on the volunteer agency it is a great way to network
God's Love We Deliver is a great agency to network. They renovated their building to a $28 million building design by Michael Kors. A lot of big corporations volunteer their employees there.
I have volunteered in New York City before at a few places including NY Cares.
I have been to soup kitchens in NYC before. They are not so fun. The volunteers who serve food are often extremely nervous.
I read that rich people do not volunteer. Their reasoning has something to do with the concept of avoid damaged people, because damaged people damage other people.

You do know that volunteering is not suppose to be about you right?
