Hello - we are considering a move to Riverdale and have a daughter going into 7th grade next year. She has been in catholic school and when we move, would like to keep her in the same. Can anyone recommend a school in riverdale for middle and high school? It is overwhelming to figure out where exactly to move in close proximity where she will go to school.
We are also checking niche.com and insiders.org but it helps to get 'real' subjective opinions as well.
I'm curious too...Riverdale is a pretty well kept hidden gem in NYC.
Are you possibly Jewish/Irish?
Exactly. It's rather strange that someone from Texas of all places would pick Riverdale of all places. It's not exactly on the radar. If anything I would expect Manhattan or some other place. Austin has the arts, nightlife etc. Riverdale is just a sleepy, leafy bedroom community up in the hills with no nightlife to speak of (and the people that live there like it that way). Usually people with money that want to escape from the City but be close enough to it go there.

Not sure why this matters ? OP has some specific questions and everyone starts making assumptions about the Austin guy. People come from different walks of life. Maybe they have a friend who told them about Riverdale, maybe they googled it.

Thank you!
My cousin lives in Riverdale. A wealthy banker. And his kids go to catholic school as well. I can't say which one but you are fine with any of them.
Whatever anyone else on this board may tell you, do anything you can to keep your kids out of NYC public schools. It's both a safety and education issue.
If Riverdale is such a hidden gem, why is it expensive and why do so many people know about it?

Riverdale is no more a gem than any other good neighborhood in NYC. Its also extremely inconvenient for most.
It's expensive, but "cheap" compared to Manhattan prices, and it's usually Manhattan people that move there looking for more space at lower prices. That's what the OP means by a hidden gem because it has good access to Manhattan albeit expensive, but options nonetheless. It's also very safe, compared to most of the Bronx. Despite what some may say, a lot of people don't know where it is. They either think it's part of Manhattan or in Westchester, not part of the Bronx.
