Which Lectrofan do you guys use? I didn't have much luck with mine
Even with my nice one now, I still get woken up by the bass, yelling and what sounds like bowling.
No motive has been named, but Trott's friends have speculated that consistently high tensions with her neighbors may have played a role. Trott's habit of scattering bird seed for pigeons reportedly attracted rats to the block, which others in her building did not appreciate. She and her neighbors also clashed over dog etiquette, with the building board getting involved and conflict apparently boiling over into a physical altercation on at least one occasion, when another resident shoved Trott.
I wasn't wrong. Also, I think it's terrible she died but she most likely had a choice to avoid further conflict. Some idiots are just selfish and she paid for it with a miserable death.
Suspected killer was an EDP who had been committed twice in the past few years. Also her own mother called the police on her for acting erratically only about a week before the murder. So, no, this woman’s behavior with birds or dogs was not what got her killed. She just had the misfortune of living near a mentally disturbed person with homicidal tendencies. https://nypost.com/2018/10/31/suspec...ttan-ad-maven/
What brand of ear plugs do you us? I use "Mack's Ultra Soft Earplugs." I am a very light sleeper and even the sound of the furnace turning on will wake me up. I wear them all night and there is no discomfort.
I find them not as effective. I use Heros 33 earplugs. They're not comfortable but those are the only ones that block random sleep noise.
I say before you invest in another white noise machine try noise cancellation headsets. I too use Mack's and they really are terrific for blocking out sounds of all kinds. A while back I too was having trouble with a neighbor. The problem with white noise machines is that the noise they make might keep you awake especially if you're already in a highly agitated state and you really would need to turn to volume up to overcome the noise from upstairs. While you really can't sleep with noise cancellation headsets ( they're kind of big and bulky) wearing them in your apt may help keep you calmer thereby making it easier to sleep. And try the Mack's. They really work. I really feel for you. Good luck.
You already said the walls and floors are thin. Even if this person left, there is no guarantee the next person will be any more quiet. It may not be a dog next time. It could be kids or teenagers and these will be even more noisy than a dog. Trust me, I have been through what you have gone through many many times with many different types of neighbors.
You will turn into a basketcase. Every sound anyone makes will disturb you. You should think about leaving. There are places out there that will be peaceful. I went from place to place to place (moved over a dozen times in just a few short years) and finally found a peaceful place and your whole life will finally get better. Just keep trying. Your sanity is worth more than any amount of money saved from the rent stabilized place.
For the people who use white noise machines or earplugs at night - what did you do as children?
Just curious
Slept poorly. Went to doctor for sleep problems starting at age 10. No one thought of earplugs, although not sure that would have solved the entire problem. Still, I think it would have helped.
I didn't discover them til I went to college and had a roommate in an upper bunk who got up to go to the skating rink at 5:30 am every morning. I was so desperate and at that point it was pretty clear that noise was the problem.
