A lot of white people happily live in Woodside, Sunnyside, Jackson Heights, etc.

Wow....no white people feel comfortable in Western Queens????

WHITE PEOPLE DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE IN ASTORIA OR LONG ISLAND CITY???? Never mind the multiple other neighborhoods in that part of Queens that are pretty freakin' white friendly....

That's just bananas. I am a white person. I grew up in a white neighborhood in the Bronx. It was too white, leading to too white attitudes. I moved to Astoria two and a half years ago. Literally never once have I felt unsafe. NEVER ONCE. I am about to move to Jackson Heights, on the border of East Elmhurst. Haven't felt unsafe there.

OP, to echo most of the reasonable responses on this thread (ignoring the now 2 completely out of touch fear-mongering folks), your asks are very reasonable. I wouldn't personally take on any commute going into Penn then transferring to the subway, it may seem like it's just a stop but you have to transfer from whichever train you're coming in on, battle through crowds to get to the subway, and then get there. Not worth it. I'd look into Yorkville (Q train), Astoria (N,W trains), Upper Upper West Side neighborhoods (2,3, A trains - silverbull mentioned Washington Heights, tons of other neighborhood options there too).

If you're afraid of Western Queens, why even live in NYC? The range of "acceptable" neighborhoods would be pretty small with that mindset. I actually think the entirety of Manhattan might be grimier than Woodside.

Seriously, wtf lol. Some of the people in this thread would look at my gf and think wtf is she doing even though the demographic assumptions are reversed (me: white collar corporate high pay poc, her: assistant soon to be dog walker + school and has been min wage w). Plus, we both live in the Lower East Side where I'd bet if it weren't for the kid of the OP, people would recommend even though the demographics are nearly the same (more AA and Asian, less Hispanic, same % White).

Oh well, my office has jalapeno popcorn and it's quite good. Lets see where this goes.

You always talk about how you're such a tough native New Yorker but seem to be afraid of certain neighborhoods that are largely safe

30 minute commute time is pretty limiting and the prices are going to be pretty competitive.

45 minutes is still reasonable and can lead to slightly cheaper areas.

You can pull up articles about crime anywhere. Walk the neighborhood to get a real feel.

Actually, he doesn't talk about much except statements that expose how racist he is. He's just a poor lonely bored troll and it's better off to ignore.
