Amazon has not announced anything yet for a 2nd hq winner. Both crystal city and long Island City are close to airports and both areas have 40 percent 4 year degree holders which is kind of high. Amazon splitting the offices into two is a good idea in my book. So far crystal city has been picked. The 2nd city has not been picked yet. NYC Dallas and Austin are what's left on the list. Another site said amazon may pick there cities instead of just one.
Amazon has announced nothing. All so far is speculation.
Amazon placing a big unit in NYC is dumb as hell. All that talk about high paying, i.e. $100K, jobs looks like hogwash if you got to live in the Big Apple. That's like a $65K job in Atlanta or Raleigh!
I'll believe when I see Bezos standing in L.I.C. next to NYC's mayor.
Many people in NYC make under 50k and survive. It’s not hogwash. Most major American companies have substantial presence in NYC, and many foreign companies do too.
None of those people have any power to stop an one trillion dollar company from coming to NYC.
I never said anything about stopping. However, community groups and their enlisted city council members are able to obstruct/delay/downsize projects as well as make all kinds of demands for community benefits, i.e. shakedowns. We see this all the time.
And since Amazon hasn't officially made their announcement, hearing some objection noise might be enough to sway them to change their minds about coming to NYC. Who wants to be in a place where you are not welcome (by the community) when there are plenty of other very attractive cities who will bend over backwards for them?

Amazon is not abandoning Seattle just because of crazy leftist activists. They wanted to be on the East Coast for very strategic business purposes.
Activists did not want Uber or Lyft to be here. However no one conceded a market like NYC. Community activists could not stop Fresh Direct from moving to the South Bronx. Community activists could not stop the Columbia University expansion. These are low IQ people with no jobs and no life. Community activists have failed to stop expansion and gentrification so much it is funny. Get a job fools!

Are you trying to compare Uber and Lyft fighting for the NYC market to Amazon picking a HQ site? They are two different things. Fighting for market share and business is a must for a company. Amazon having its 2nd HQ here is not a must.
The Rockaway have the beachfront. Certain residential Queens neighbourhoods have ethnic food options rare in the best of the city. People go to Flushing Meadows for baseball and tennis. There are museums in LIC. Queens has tourism. Of course there's the casino in Howard Beach, which will soon have table gambling.
You have a lot of new development in residential Queens neighbourhoods as well. Recent years has seen a lot of development in the area around Queens Mall, and a lot of Section 8 people are getting thrown out of Lefrak.
With all that, Queens has less tourism than Brooklyn and will continue to have less. It’s just the way queens is as more residential than commercial.
Malls are not a signal of tourisM. The Rockaways aren’t there at all for tourism...yet
Casinos are heavily visited by just a subset of travelers mostly Asian and many locals
The Bronx has yankee stadium and tourism is still lacking there. Most tourist are either staying in manhattan or Brooklyn
An amazon office won’t jumpstart a huge tourism boost in Corona or Jackson heights lol

Amazon succeeded in Seattle killing the homeless tax.
Amazon will succeed with essentially ignoring the community boards and activist. Nobody protested the various fullfilment centers of amazon paying minimum wage here and yet want to protest high paying jobs? Backwards
They can complain all they want, our politicians want amazon here
