NPR says that NYC offers an example in dating lessons.
On NPR's program, "Wait, Wait" I think it was Peter Sagal who said that NYC, apropos of Amazon, was a perfect lesson of indifference as a way of wooing a suitor. Here you have places like Cleveland, he said, who were screaming "Chose me!" but Amazon chose a place where they weren't really wanted.
And HOW much concessions? At least over a billion. How is it possible that we would do that to a company whose owner is already the richest guy on the block?
All this fuss. Did they do the same when they built the AT&T "Chippendale building" or the Woolworth building, or Exxon Mobile, or even the WTC, Rockefelller Center, or the Empire State building?
What is unique about corporate headquarters in New York? Is it the fact that it is in Queens that is dazzling everyone?
NYC is cool according to the transplants especially Brooklyn
You can say whatever you want. the fact is that LI is way desirable than Westchester. Real estate prices support that. similar houses cost more in LI than in Westchester. LIRR vs Metro north? that's no brainer. LIRR will have east side access soon and now with Amazon in Queens with a LIRR stop in LIC. You know which wins
This guy seems perpetually insecure about LI/Queens, so he makes ridiculous proclamations like the LIRR being better than Metro North, which is absurd to any one who's regularly ridden both. He's a broken record, and seems in need of therapy.
What with Long Island and Westchester disagreements who is better they both have high taxes, boring, expensive to live ? Amazon will affect both areas equally
Where is the location where it's stopping in LIC? I checked the Penn Station Access wikipedia page, and while it shows a line (Metro North New Haven line) physically going through Queens/LIC, there is no stop shown on the map.
On the MTA map of the project they show the stop in LIC. Recent developments likely made the MTA decide to have the MNRR stop in LIC since the trains have to go through there to go Penn Station, and LIC is quickly becoming a major job center.

Good. They need to make use of that line. It will enrich that part of the Bronx.

Cool. But here’s a question (maybe stupid but help me out here). Why are the stations in the Bronx marked with stars and the one in LIC marked with a circle? Do they have to build the station in LIC or does it already exist, and if it exists, where is it?
LI and Westchester are not even comparable in my opinion. Westchester is just like another NJ or CT county. What is unique about it?
The only reason i can think of for people to buy in WC is the schools

Just because Westchester is generally preferred doesn’t mean Long Island is bad. It simply has some advantages like some people have noted.
As for Amazon’s effect, both areas should benefit. From Westchester, it’s an easy ride on Metro North to Grand Central, then a quick transfer to the subway. Really not bad at all. From Long Island, the existing Hunters Point station in LIC is not exactly close to the Amazon site. It’s like a 15 minute walk or so. Maybe the company will provide shuttles or something but the LIRR is not really an easier commute than Metro North as things stand now.
