I remember that. It’s a big distribution center. People forget that all shilling operations like Amazon have to do is bridge and tunnel it to the other boroughs. That was a great deal for SI and the whole city.
After that they decided to put another distribution center in Woodside and then half of the second headquarters in Queens. Way to go SI and Queens. I’m glad the city is being developed in a less Manhattan centric way.
A sprawling warehouse where the majority of the staff is hourly makes sense in the industrial wastelands of SI.
I order at www.Amazon.com. Not sure what they do with it afterwards.
As I understand it, You’re charged tax if the product you buy comes from a seller that is based (or has
business locations) within NY. This includes products sold by Amazon becase they already have offices here. Sometimes things you buy may come from a 3rd party who sells through Amazon but does not have their business based in NY. If you buy a 3rd party product you may not be charged tax depending on where that 3rd party is located.
Someone can confirm or correct me if this is incorrect.
I am going to guess that ALL products, except food and low cost clothing) bought from or through Amazon will be hit with a NYS+NYC sales tax (8.875%.)
That is not insignificant for a large purchase.
NY, like many states, has been trying to get at this tax money for a while and Amazon just made it easier.

Correct. It''s called Nexus.
If Amazon ships the order from their Amazon warehouse in NY then they have to charge sales tax.

If a 3rd party ships the order from their warehouse in another state that is not in NY and they have no employees based in NY or any presence in NY then they don't charge sales tax.
A couple of dozen NIMBY protestors do not represent a city of 8.5 million.
This is NYC. A dozen old ladies sitting at home all day can stall billion dollar MTA projects over daytime noise pollution.
