When I was a kid - we're talking late 70's timeframe, there was a building in Manhattan that I am trying to identify.
I don't remember what kind of building it was, though it was more likely residential than commercial.
On the outside, one wall was covered in neon numbers which would change. The setup was as follows: the neon display was mounted vertically; and over time, the numbers would change, being lit up and displayed in a vertical fashion.
Inside the building were neon "string" lights that illuminated and wrapped each corridor: up the wall, across the ceiling, and back down the opposite wall. At the end of each hallway, would be a large neon number denoting your position in the building (floor, wing?)
I was a young boy at the time, and I can't relay any more detail than what I've given. Many laptops ago, I had found, and saved, a picture of one of the floors, detailing info pertaining to the building. I have since lost that info.
Do any of you remember the building that I describe?
The lighted tunnel did exist in a building a Water St. I'm not sure exactly where. We used to have plenty make-out sessions here and security would chase us away. We would call it "the tunnels". Also the back of the seaport area close to where the fish markets used to be was another spot we hung out.
I wish I could remember this darn building, but yes it was very close to the countdown clock area.
That picture you posted Shay, is of an NYU dorm. Those numbers are actually a clock. The hour is lighted in red, and the minutes are supposed to be either in blue, or white, I forget. I've been in the building before. Loft dorms.
So this is the 200 Water St. NYU Dorm, although I don't believe it's still used as dorms. The hour is in red, the minutes in blue and the seconds in white. The clock, however, is no longer time accurate but is still fun to look at.
OMG Fellas, I think I found it. The picture that you posted (with the blue lights) is not of 200 Water St. but of the building immediately across. It's of 127 John Street. If I'm not mistaken, it was put up by the same artist (Rudolph de Harak) who built the big clock across the street.
Are you thinking of the mirror scene? That was shot in a New Jersey studio.
