I think Woodhaven, and Queens in general, fights back against turning into Brooklyn. Back in the day the Queens precincts always concentrated a lot of it's force at the Brooklyn border.
Right. With all due respect, "turning into East New York" would probably be a bad thing for Woodhaven. Although turning into Brooklyn is not necessarily, a bad thing of course, see: Ridgewood and Bushwick in the present day.

Even as trendy as Bushwick has become, Ridgewood is still the nicer of the two.
Always wondered why don't people in East New York come over into Woodhaven, it's just a couple of blocks away. If East New York has such a bad reputation, why doesn't that bleed into Woodhaven?
There is a gradient elevation that can not be seen on a one dimensional map.

Not as steep as 96th street separating Upper East Side and Spanish Harlem
They're cut off either by the Conduit or marshland along the southern Brooklyn/Queens border.
What about Cypress Hill to Woodhaven gradient along the J/Z line?
