There were actual cheese shops at one time? Didn't know they ever existed. Oh, that would be heaven to me. I'd hang around all day buying all sorts of cheese.

A good seamstress/tailor. Off the rack clothing always needs to be tailored for a better fit. A dart here, items too long (short people's problem) etc. The seamstress/tailors at the dry cleaners always seem to have an attitude, overcharge or don't do it correctly.
A good shoemaker/ leather repair guy. I remember this Italian shoemaker in Brooklyn that I brought my shoes/boots to re-sole, replace heel tips, add holes in a too big, but must have, leather belt, etc. I would stop by at least once a month. His work was impeccable, quick and reasonably priced.
I miss the old school vibe. The Bodega with a real butcher and products. The simple greasy spoon coffee shops, with a full breakfast for $5. The Cuban Asian luncheonette/restaurant. The little tailor shop. Woolworths and the lunch counter. buster brown/discount shoe store.
I lives in Queens so some things are still there. I cant understand how a Chipotle chain could survive in a latino neighborhood.

How long ago are you talking? 5 dollars when you were young might be the equivalent of 15 dollars now, which can definitely get you a full breakfast. As for Chipotle, why not? Plenty of Latinos eat Chipotle and it's not like there are any neighborhoods in NYC that are 100% Latino.

We had a cheese shop in my neighborhood. I think it was around for a few years before it closed down. Maybe ten years ago or so. I think it could work in the right neighborhood if marketed well, having events, etc.

I used to love going into Woolworths when I was a kid---the one closer to my house didn't have the counter but the one on the main shopping strip did. I hadn't seen a Woolworths for years---imagine my surprise when I found one in Germany when I just randomly walked down a street.
I'm a little surprised nobody said movie theaters. With the Internet and big screen 4K TVs, I can understand them not being a necessity anymore, but once in a blue moon, a movie theater is cool for the ambiance.
