Yep. I know this area and street quite well and used to frequent many of the Irish bars. It could be someone wasn't happy about the new place...or, and my theory, Sidetracks was an inside insurance job. The Irish in this area are know for this. Many years ago they burned down Blooms for the insurance money. I used to hit Sidetracks back in the day before their hipster makeover in 2007 and it appears business never was the same. They used to have a monster crowd on the weekends full of all ethnic backgrounds but all native NYers to the area. With the new YUPPIE crowd in Sunnyside, old Irish bars don't fly.

Alpha survived. Been going there since the mid 70s when I was a kid.

Sidetracks, the Irish bar next door, should be investigated for insurance fraud. Irish bars on Queens blvd are known to burn the place down when business tanks.
