Hmmm... hmmm... what exactly is the purpose of this Muslim patrol??? They cannot enforce Sharia law in NYC, that would be beyond ridiculous.
This is what I hope (I hope!) it is. My famous Parkchester condo is in an area that is about 40+% Latino, 40+% Afro, and about 12% South Asian (mostly Muslim Bangladeshis). These Bangladeshis are family-oriented small businessmen, and their mosque is famously tolerant (ie, loudly condemning terrorism, and sharing their building, for free I think, with the impoverished old Jewish community that could no longer pay rent for Jewish religious quarters). They cause zero crime and disturbance. They have been repeatedly victimized (by members of locally dominant ethnicities) by way of severe beatings and burglaries/theft from their stores. Parkchester Bangladeshis could certainly use this Muslim patrol for protection from street criminals... IF the patrol is indeed for that kind of purpose...
Sorry, omnes viae Romam dvcvnt (Latin proverb that means: all roads lead to Parkchester :-).
Thankyou for this excellent information.
Time to address the millions of followers of Jesus in the United States
for an inquiry into a possible and legal implementation of a Christian Security Patrol.
Maybe not that different in concept from the Jewish Shomrim who patrol Brooklyn, with the exception that the Shomrim are much more ubiquitous and powerful than they should be.
I don't believe in any religion-sponsored security patrols. At all. No matter what the religion.
It's funny that people are outraged over this when Shomrim is much larger and prevalent. If you're going to be outraged over it, be outraged about ALL religious patrols.
The only reason why I could see a religious patrol having some function (although it isn't clear why a regular police patrol isn't good enough for it) is when a certain religious group is threatened. Reminds me of a photo taken by a friend of mine, at Notre Dame in Paris, of a young officer in riot gear genuflecting and crossing himself with the right hand while holding what looks like a sniper in the left.... but that was a short time after the Muslim fundamentalist attack at Notre Dame in 2017. I suppose you could call that a Christian Security Patrol... hope we won't need that, ever.
Again, if this Muslim patrol is to protect honest immigrant grocers and cab drivers from gang crime, then it has a justification, otherwise it kind of begs a number of questions.
