As Long Island City and Downtown Brooklyn fighting to become second Manhattan the next top booming area is Downtown Flushing it rapidly growing fast. Residents call Downtown Flushing little Hong Kong because neon lights everywhere.
Is it me or does everyone ignore the filth that encompasses the downtown area.
Is the sanitation department non present or should this little city be renamed " Litter City".

Downtown Flushing is booming, but there are a lot of different ways to argue what constitutes one place "overtaking" another. One thing to note is that FAA regulations means that Flushing's new developments are going to be stouter than those of downtown Brooklyn or LIC due to its proximity to LaGuardia. On the other hand, there are more remaining larger, cheaper, and un-landmarked parcels close to downtown Flushing than in LIC or downtown Brooklyn.

My impression is that it's gotten better over the last several years. The sidewalks along Main are much better maintained and wider now and that crowded mess underneath the LIRR tracks has improved a lot. A lot of the larger, newer developments especially seem to have employed people to clean the vicinity.
Waiting for Jamaica still. Now that's a 'downtown' that would be useful. Jamaica station for commuting to LIC, Atlantic Ave - Downtown Brooklyn, or Penn Station - Midtown. Plus the J, E, and by certain extension F trains. We have something of a layout and population breadth that we could decentralize Midtown/Downtown, and the transit to somewhat support it. Could decentralize like Tokyo where you have Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Tokyo Center, Ikkebukuro, Shinagawa, etc. all acting as downtowns. Maybe make a circle line doing at least Jamaica - Flushing - Midtown - Downtown - The Hub aka 149th st Bronx (?) - Downtown Brooklyn - Jersey City...

I'm dreaming again.
Combine those commuter rail networks for through-running. Connect PATH and IRT where reasonable (i.e. 6 train and PATH-WTC).
It's a shame and a hassle that only one subway line goes all the way to Main Street. Flushing is so dependent on the 7. Too much so.
