“Amazon won’t settle for taking over Long Island City or an almost million square foot fulfillment center on Staten Island.”

“Now, the online shopping behemoth has signed a lease for a 117,00 square foot warehouse at 1300 Viele Avenue in Hunts Point.”

“The former Whitestone Movie Theater site is being turned into a two-level 840,000 square foot ‘last mile’ warehouse as well and is being billed as one of the first of its kind in the country and the first in the East Coast.”

It doesn't seem surprising. I guess building a big warehouse in NYC means it can get products to customers more quickly and keep people shopping at Amazon. Probably NYC residents are already buying a lot from Amazon and Amazon wants to ensure that continues.

Former Whitestone Movie theatre
Site is not Hunts Point. It's five minutes from my house near Castle Hill, Throggs Neck, and Zerega. That explains all the road work.

To make money? Duh! NYC is the nation’s biggest city and biggest metro area.

Amazon’s various services are popular.

As for LIC operatiobs, that’s due to NYC’s status as a world financial capital.

Well they say in the article they signed a lease at 1300 Viele Ave , which is in Hunts Point.

They also say the Movie theater which is at 2505 Bruckner Blvd near Zerega is being turned into a warehouse.

So they have 2 different sites in two different areas of the bx but one is Hunts point.

Those easily make up over 50% of freight from my observations. Amazon is headed towards being a monopoly of online shopping.

Correct me if im wrong but I thought they were going to turn that area into an Oultet Shopping area?

On the brightside, Amazon coming to the Bronx means big business and more jobs for those who are looking. With $15 the minimum and owners looking to cut costs by eliminating jobs and cutting workers hours this can be an opportunity for anyone wanting extra cash or a new job.
