I'm actually thinking of moving. Times, News and Post got Cuomo talkin' about how any vehicle entry south of 61st St is gonna cost $11.

Rent goin' up $50 a month, no raise and now, $220 more just to go to work, or spend 2 hours each way on sh---y public transportation from the MTA which has absolutely gotten worse every single time they were given more money, and their fares gonna go up to $3.

So either pay $120 for the privilege of spending 3 to 4 hours a day on nasty, slow subways or $220 (+$95 a month car insurance) to go to work. Oh, and I work nights when the subways are usually down for one thing or another...

I'm so pi---d I can barely see straight. And, no, I didn't vote for these a--holes. I voted Republican, although I doubt it would've made any difference, Bloomberg tried that same crap.

I'm not givin' up the car since the only areas that $2000 a f----ng studio are in 2-ride, no subway zones (and my car been paid off when I was in the Army back when I was somebody). I'm venting so hard tbough because, really I wanna stay in NYC since I been to at least 30 cities (well, like 10 real cities and the rest a bunch of overglorified towns) and, a lot of America could just be shuttered and condemned.

I am so angry.

I struggle to think, and put together the rational idea, "Hey, change jobs. You live in a borough, work in a borough." Really, I like my neighborhood, if only I got a job that paid a little more, I'd be happy. I like the area, my job is easy, my son like his school (that's priceless, I hated school when I was a kid)

All I am is a Veteran with a Class B CDL, and there are probably spots out there for me, but all what I've seen all pay way less to do way more. This congestion pricing idea has me so unbelievably mad.

This is what happens when Democrats take complete control of state government. It saddens me to see all of this happening, which is only going to hurt the poorest and middle class the most.

As for those who say this is necessary to fund mass transit upgrades, I say BS. Stop building multi-billion-dollar subway stations and stop expanding subway service at exorbitant rates (I've already touched on cheaper solutions to mass transit issues in other threads).

Antics like these are big reasons why I do not see myself ever returning to NYC full time (note, NYC is still my home of record, though I have not physically lived there for many years now).

You get what you vote for, though, I guess

Bloomberg is by far the biggest RINO in existence, though. I'm pretty sure he only ran as a Republican to get Giuliani (and his supporter's) support

Is driving part of your job? If not, what neighborhood do you commute to? If you aren’t too keen on other parts of the US, then perhaps the forum can help in finding a neighborhood with the best mix of things you’re looking for for the price you can afford.

I don’t understand why people drive in the city.

When I see people stuck in bumper to bumper traffic in Manhattan, laying on their horn, I just lol, and think, “you dumb ass”.

I work overnight. Live in BK, work in Manhattan. Pretty easy quick commute, since I get in Manhattan after the parking signs end and, leave out before the parking signs start.

Insurance, comprehensive, like $90 and gas maybe another $55 for the month. Total like $140-150. Takes about 35-45 minutes. Comfortable. ...but if congestion pricing is that BS $11, that brings my costs up to $370-$380 just because of congestion pricing.

Trains cost a static $120, on top of car insurance $90 (cuz' I refuse to sell, or have only liability). So $210-$220 total per month. Routinely takes 80-90 minutes. If the line is replaced by a sh-ttle bus, it's like 2 hours. Dirty, crowded and, bums ...several times each way.

If congestion pricing were like $3 or less or, only in effect from 7pm - 7am us wage slaves would be good.

...that money gonna be wasted on the MTA, and regular joes can't afford to live near subway lines.
Then they say their inspiration is Singapore which is a beautiful dystopia but, dystopian as it may be, they're not corrupt (technically). Albany corrupt as s--t, they'll take the money and the MTA will get worse, same as always and, the rest of NYC will look comparable to the 3rd world. I have been to Iraq (twice), Kuwait, Afghanistan and, Kyrgzstan, I seen it with my own eyes... so we'll just have an ugly dystopia.

...and any claim to reduce global warming is BS, it's just a guise to step into everybody's day-to-day living. China accounts for fully 33% of greenshouse gas emission by itself. USA like 20%. I don't know what India is... that's a sidetrack...

Well, the easiest solution is to just switch jobs. If I could get a comparable pay and same schedule I'd be good but BK ain't really got jobs past Barclay Center in any direction.

^ Vote with your feet and leave.

Sadly, we have to let this liberalism-socialism stranglehold on NYC runs its course and let this city decline. Just hope the city comes out of it (in a decade or two) having learned a lesson, though I doubt it.

Their inspiration is definitely not Singapore. Singapore highest tax bracket on the rich only goes up to 22%, with middle class paying around 7-10% in tax, and corporate taxes are very very low as well. They also have no minimum wage laws, with GDP average of $90k per capita...

If this were an actual legitimate, fair scheme to address congestion, then there would be no fee to drive during those times when there is no congestion. But we all know that's a total sham because it's actually a money making and taxation opportunity so they will hit you even you are the ONLY car on the entire Avenue at the crack of dawn.

It's like the radar traps, if they really wanted people to slow down they would have big flashing signs "RADAR CAMERA RIGHT HERE". But they don't care if you slow down, they want you to keep going 37 miles an hour in a 25 zone so they can collect $50 from the hundreds of thousands of people who are going to safely drive that speed

I thought congestion pricing WAS going to be limited to certain hours.

I could be wrong.
