DeBozo has no idea how to run a competent administration. He closes things when they don't need to be closed, and keeps them open for the opposite. He's been salting the streets non-stop since his f-up back in November, and we've only had one storm worth salting for.
Enjoy the next 20 years of rusted out infrastructure!!

That was November, and that was 95% the Port Authority's fault for not having plows ready at the George Washington Bridge. The cars piled up and the chain reaction destroyed the traffic in all of NYC metro. NYC should have had plows too but it was basically all the PA's fault
Schools should be open in all but the worst blizzards. Back in the 80s/90s schools never closed, except for the blizzard of 96 which dropped about 3 feet on us. Parents made a personal choice if they wanted to send the kids or not; at times the attendance was 50%.
That said, if we are going to close schools on a regular basis, waiting until the morning only makes it more difficult for the parents who have to scramble to find a babysitter at 4 or 5 AM.
Confused why DeBlasio closed. Why don't they wait until the morning to call it instead of @ night BEFORE anything even happened? So stupid.
It actually makes a lot of sense to call it the night before in most cases so that people have enough time to plan, etc., for the closures. My problem is that, even in the worse case predicted, this decision was unwarranted as the snow was supposed to fall during the overnight hours. Also, the forecast update for 4 MAR (available well before the call was made) had the temperature at too high for anything to stick (let along form as snow) to begin with.

he have to call it the night before as you have to remember not everyone day start at the same time. Some peoples day start at 4am or 5am when the roads were not cleared. Its easier to get a babysitter the day before the storm rather than get one the morning of the storm. By 7am most major roads were cleared and at the moment there is hardly any snow in midtown thanks to the underground train system generating heat.
So DeBlasio was in a damned if he did damn if he didnt place and he choose the safe option.

Right, but all signs pointed to no big deal road conditions based on temperature. He err'd on the side of "don't ********** up again even if there's 99.9% chance I don't actually need to mess up everyone's schedule"

Well, he's in over correction mode after the fiasco back in Nov. That snow event was odd. The accumulation wasn't all that much but it wreaked tremendous havoc. And after the Bloomberg fiasco during that blizzard. Everyone's in over correction mode.
They should have a late start but they should have open schools. The forecast said that it would get sunny (and reach the upper 30's) late morning. The March sun is much stronger than the November sun so any snow on pavement and roads were going to melt.
I'm hearing 5-8 inches. I can't believe they are closing.
If schools closed for this in the 80s and 90s they would hardly be open all winter. 5-8 inches was a routine snow storm by then. Even a foot and the schools remained open. They could have not marked kids late or absent for those whose commute was going to be a problem and where the parents could have made other arrangements.
Of course, for all that the administration claims to care about working families, closing schools hurt the working class the most. They can't afford child care in cases like these, and many parents will have to take a day off that they cannot afford to lose. .
This is the problem. How come no word on this from AOC.
