At what? Number of wealthy people? That’s not a telecomms thing—London’s mobile and high speed internet infrastructure isn’t that good. They’ve got a better subway system, but that’s partly because of greater reliable investment and better planning like making Crossrails instead of our similar, but much stupider Grand Central Access plan.
https://nypost.com/2019/03/14/de-bla...hattan-bigger/ (Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to spend $10 billion to “climate proof” lower Manhattan by building out the coastline by two blocks into the East River from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Battery.)
This is nothing. There have been plans in the past to drain the East River completely and even a separate plan to fill in the Hudson. Too bad neither of these happened in the era when we were actually capable of doing something like this.
The tube costs way more than the NYC Subway. No one in power ever really recognizes the subway for how cheap it is. Raise the price and if you can't afford it
.. Well it's time to walk!
deBozo is doing this all just for show. He has no idea where he is going to get the $10 Billion from. He said the city is putting up $10 million for a study, which probably will be a waste as well (but then what's $10 million anymore?) because back when Bloomberg was mayor right after Sandy, he too made a whole bunch of grand proposals that are now collecting dust.
The best way to get this done and without costs to the city (taxpayers) would be to allow new development on the waterfront. Every new development would be responsible for building up their part of the waterfront.
Of course, this would not sit well with NIMBYs so they'll go screaming to the usual pandering pols and so this idea will get snuffed.
