I am looking at the salary schedule for NYC teachers and am curious to know if anyone has knowledge of the amount of experience (years) the NYC Department of Education gives out-of-state teachers. I am a math teacher with 15 year of experience teaching. Would I be given that experience? Someone please help me to understand the salary schedule a little more and how it impacts experienced teachers that are new to the NYC.

They won’t tell you because they don’t guarantee any reciprocity. You have to complete an application process and submit all of your credentials for examination first. Then they determine how much credit they will give you.Nothing is automatic.

Thanks for the information. So they do tell you ahead of you getting a job, correct? If I were to start the application process next February, I would know within a reasonable time how many years they were going to give me? Is there a maximum years given?

The maximum is 7, but you won't know until after you have started working for several months It takes time for them to verify the employment and they don't do it immediately after hire. You have to make a separate application, involves going to the HR department if you want to make sure it gets done correctly. Adjustments are made later.
