They shouldn't hire anymore, there are too many cars more than cabs. Many drivers are popping up in NJ instead of NYC.
They don't need anymore Uber Eats people either. Most of them are rude and incompetent. Why on earth would I want a pizza to be made in a wood fire oven for it to be "walked" over to my residence and arrive cold?
Yellow cabs shot themselves in the foot by being dirty, crappy cars, no seatbelts, bullet proof glass, rude drivers that give attitude. May they go the way of the dodo bird.
I use Lyft even when I could walk out front and wave down a yellow cab. Lyft cars are cleaner, cheaper and the drivers friendlier.
minimum wage rule is too high, so they are constricting supply so that fares go up. The rider is going to end up paying for these laws
That's good, because it will deter people from using these services whenever they want because it was too cheap and flooded the market. Streets are a limited resource, it has become a parking lot as traffic has been the worst I've ever experienced even on weekends.
So we normal drivers should give up driving in NYC because uber Lyft are allowed to flood the streets?

The city extorted millions of dollars from the yellow cab industry to keep them regulated- thus limiting competition and making profits difficult to achieve by lone-drivers who took pride in their product.
If the same regulations were imposed on Lyft and Uber- you'd see that too.
No one seems to blame the regulatory agencies.
Imagine how much nicer it would be to fly if we could go to an airport, get on an app and purchase a ride to a city of our choosing 10 dollars cheaper than through the airlines, bypass paying the security fees, bypass TSA altogether since we're not buying a seat through a regulated airline, and get to our destination.
Ridesharing was created to reduce the amount of cars on the road, but because of NYC's regressive antibusiness, anti-innovation policies, we can't have nice things. Meanwhile in California, you can pay for a quarter water with your credit card whilst every store here has a 10 dollar minimum.

That's actually not true, but you can buy booze EVERYWHERE .

I think it's a balancing act of being too pro business that got them the point where they needed to clamp down on and provide regulation.
Think about it, it's stupid to pass a $15/hr min wage and expect Uber/Lyft drivers to be able to make that if there are too many drivers and cars.
You probably don't understand how drivers get paid and how to make the most money.
- If the supply of cars + driver is high then the cost is lower for riders but it means that drivers get paid less.
- If the roads are always jammed then a driver gets paid less because they can only pickup few passengers per hour if they are stuck on the road. Uber pays like 2-3 cents per min sitting in the traffic. That's roughly $3 extra sitting in traffic on top of the distance.
- Traffic jams cost the city in tax collection, as less passengers can get into cars paying fares means less ridership
It makes less sense for both Drivers and the city to allow too many cars on the road because it eats into their profits.
I had one uber guy claims he makes $100/hr on Friday nights because it's easier to drive and he takes ppl from city to Brooklyn and back into city in just 2 roundtrips in one hour he makes $100. If there are traffic jams, he can only do one roundtrip means he only makes $50.
