One of my friends works in the east 30s and I loiter around there. Most of our food in that area comes from the street vendor (I hangout from 6 pm to around 2 am in the street sometimes). That's where I washed broccoli in a bar bathroom and ate it.

Subway sandwich is very expensive there like 7 dollars. I've been to an Indian grocery and a Korean grocery to purchase food, but even those are inflated compared to food stores in most areas.

So my question to you all is how MUCH has it converted back to the old gritty NYC ? Is there a resurgence of nightlife and dancing ? After hours joints ? People sitting on stoops smoking weed or out in the park ?

Drug deals out in the open ?

Is it anything close to the good old days or does it have any potential to go back to those days ?

$10 sandwich still the norm ?

Your family members are NUTS.

Speaking of Bushwick nightlife, Left Hand Path makes a REALLY good whisky sour. They actually use egg whites, which most places I've been to so far do not. Although, I suppose that might be the norm at pricier cocktail bars. The egg white makes the drink creamier and it cuts down on the acidity of the lemon juice.

And throughout the neighborhood, there are many bars where you can get beers as cheap as 3 dollars. 5-6 dollar beer and shot combos are common.
