I'm an Art Student from england with one more year to go of my current cause at college, and would like to study in new york for a degree. Are there any colleges/universatys which you would recoment for someone intrested in fine art, and how likely would it be to get a scholarship?
Also, I would like information on apartments and neighbor hoods est. Now, i'm not the richest girl in the world, maybe quite the oppasite. I live in a lovely working class villege in yorkshire near the city of leeds at the moment, but i have lived in 'rough' areas as some people would call them. I never had any problems though.
I think at the moment the pound is much more stronger than the dollar at the moment, but talks of ressesion and such like, im wondering if i'll be able to afford it.
How much is average wage of say something like a waitress or maybe working at an art gallery or someting like that. I've googled it and havent found anything relevent, and would that be enough to afford an apartment in a okayish neighborhood, is there any arty farty communitys that you could recomend?
I'll most likely be moving with a friend in about, 2 years max.
Adivse on Working Visas too, is it hard to get one?

Thanks alot guys.
It is, indeed, a long process to get a visa that will let you work. It will take at least a couple of years. A student visa is simple to get, but you can't work with a student visa. Check with the American consulate in London about getting a visa. Until you have that visa in hand, continue to go to school and be as educated as possible about what you're getting into.
Working visas would be very difficult for you to obtain but as a student you can work on campus type jobs but the pay is usually low. You have to have your money situation together before you come here or it most likely will not work out.
