I realize I'm behind the times, but I just learned that my long-time favorite radio station, 95.5 WPLJ--"best of the 80s, 90s, and today"--is going off the air today, and I'm devastated. Can anybody recommend a decent comparable alternative? I've been googling all day, with no real luck. and no, i don't really want to pay for sirius or spotify or something--i only really listen when I'm in my car (so like 10 minutes a day), which is apparently how I missed the news before now.

Best shot would be the "Q" (104.3).
Listening to Carol Miller last night and she was talking about WPLJ shutting down. Apparently the station had a reunion this week where all former DJs (of which Ms. Miller is one) and other employees attended.
One thing about the "Q" is they play far too many GD commercial breaks IMHO during day/evening hours. Overnight ratio of music to promotions is longer, but guess that is because marketing types assume everyone is asleep after 12M or so.
Understand 104.3 has to make their money, but still it does get annoying.
Thanks! I'll check it out. When I was googling it kept recommending Z100, which i last listened to when I was in high school in the late 80s, so I'm not really excited about that option.
Q104.3 is classic rock and very different from what WPLJ was for the last 35 years. They don't play any current music or anything not considered classic rock. It's the place to hear Led Zeppelin every hour.

That station was around a long time. I'm in PA and NYC stations except for AM are too far to get on the radio, so I could never call myself a major listener, but it's sad to see radio struggling the way it is.
