Not as different from NYC as you might think. It opened your eyes because for many people they still have this outdated notion that Houston (and other U.S. non-coastal cities) are not diverse. Like I said before, this has changed dramatically the last couple of decades but people's perception / biases still lags behind reality.

To answer your question, Houston's white/black population is not that different from NYC's. More importantly, look at the trend for each of these racial categories. NYC is trending less diverse and Houston is trending more diverse. Pay attention to the Other Race and Multi-race categories.

NYC (2010 Census) (New York, NY Population - Census 2010 and 2000 Interactive Map, Demographics, Statistics, Quick Facts - CensusViewer)

Whites: 44% (Change from 2000: + .62 %)
Blacks: 25% (Change from 2000: - 1.89%)
Asians: 12% (Change from 2000: + 32%)
Other race: 13% (Change from 2000: - 1.1%)
Multi race: 4% (Change from 2000: - 17%)
Hispanics (Any race) : 28% (Change from 2000: + 8%)

Houston (2010 Census) (Houston, TX Population - Census 2010 and 2000 Interactive Map, Demographics, Statistics, Quick Facts - CensusViewer)

Whites: 50 % (Change from 2000: + 8 %)
Blacks: 24 % (Change from 2000: - .17%)
Asians: 6 % (Change from 2000: + 20 %)
Other race: 16 % (Change from 2000: + 1.5%)
Multi race: 3 % (Change from 2000: + 9.7%)
Hispanics (Any race) : 43% (Change from 2000: + 24 %)

Keep in mind this is from the 2000 and 2010 census. We know things have change even more for both of these cities in the last few years due to high COL in NYC. The 2020 census may be even more startling for all you deniers of diversity in cities other than NY.

Aside from food, how does diversity even impact your day-to-day life? Hearing languages you don't understand? How does that effect you?

This is just one study, but NYC comes in 3rd just in the US —

A lot of places in chinatown won't rent to you unless you speak mandarin.

And no one said NYC wasn't diverse. There's 12 pages of this thread mostly of you arguing something that no one is claiming is not.

And how could it possibly not be true that other cities are just as diverse or in the case of Houston, even passing NYC, when there are news stories backed by census data showing that to be the case? Are you saying all these news stories saying Houston is the most diverse city in America is not true?

Or that other cities don't have different neighborhoods too.

Unless you're a domestic immigrant coming to NYC. In that case, you'll be told to GTFO.
