Is there any easy way to switch from the Q-train to the C-train without a long, circuitous underground walk, like at Times Square? I am trying to get from the UES to Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. If necessary, two subway to subways transfers are fine.
Best I can come up with is Q to F at Lex-63rd and then F to C at West Fourth. Is that the only way?
Yes, it's either take three trains or walks that hell of Times Sq.. the three train transfers are actually quicker because both the Q and B,D run express and very frequently and the C runs frequently as well.
The trip will likely be dinner time on a weekend and my stop will be Washington-Clinton on the C-train. I am going to figure 70 minutes. I am a stickler for my punctuality. Silly, because everyone else is always late.

Honestly if it's Clinton/Wash Ave stop, I'd just take the Q to 34 to the D to W4th and take the A to Hoyt Schm.. since Clinton/Wash aves has two stops one on the C and one on the G. Getting off at Hoyt Schm will give you two options..
The fastest way would be the 4/5 to the C at Fulton. If you must take the Q I recommend switching to the 4/5 at Union Square because there's just too much walking any other way and you'd might as well simply walk to the 6 at 96th street.
If you're at 86th st already, the transit time from the 4/5 stop to Clinton Washington is roughly 35-40 minutes.
Just as a newbie who is trying to learn the subway system, when you people talk about a lot of walking, what are you actually describing? How MUCH walking (in miles)? Thanks
Edit: Or city blocks or however else you would describe it
