I hate that they are also passing costs onto non-drivers. there's just no way around this. It boggles my mind why they must charge $7.75 for a quick all-automated AirTrain ride.
"The AirTrain fee to JFK Airport would increase from $5 to $7.75, and a $4 fee would be added for all taxi and ride-sharing pick-ups and drop-offs at area airports, similar to fees charged at airports in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C."

If they didn’t dump your costs onto drivers you’d be paying a LOT more for your trains and buses.
i am surprised no one challenged these tolls as an unjust tax ..
just because someone travels in a particular direction they are taxed more than another ..these tolls are not for the road . they are going in to general tax funds and use . it really amounts to an unjust tax levied on many
You people all want unions and raising minimum wages and this and that. Well, that makes everything more expensive to do in this city, including running, building or fixing the roads, bridges, tunnels and airports.
And for those of you who thinks that because they don't use any of these things that it doesn't affect you. It does. The cost of everything gets passed down and things you don't even think is related will be affected.
Don't complain about higher anything. This is what you guys want.

No one has challenged the tolls and flight fees as an unjust tax because they know they would just sound stupid. You can sit there saying this is REALLY a TAX until the cows come home, but that's not going to change the fact that tolls and flight fees are not taxes.
The Port Authority is forbidden by law and the compact that formed it to receive any sort of tax revenue--which you know because you've lived here all your life. Of course the tolls aren't going for "the road". Does the PA oversee "the roads"? No, it does not, which you know because you have lived here all of your life.
I assume you're just being facetious, because you surely went onto the website and reviewed the Capital Plan to see what the money is slated for since you're mathjak107 and know all about finance, right?
And again, if people are going to stamp their feet and complain that our airports are badly in need of rebuilding and whine that we don't have rail access to airports like European cities do, they have no business complaining when someone comes up with a way to pay for those improvements.
The bridge and tunnel tolls are going to hurt the most, but they know people are still going to use the bridge and tunnels, and they know people are still going fly out of the NYC airports, and they've got to demonstrate sufficient revenue to sell the bonds.
There's no other way to do it. Going after police overtime (always a popular, and valid, complaint) is not going to pay for a new JFK.
