No, he shouldn't be president. He shouldn't even be running for president.
However, given that Bill De Blasio made it into the first debate, the few times he spoke, he sounded good - smart, serious, energetic, articulate ... just like you'd expect a New Yorker to be.
You see, that’s the problem right there. They make the right first impression to get into office, then they forget about what they said when they are officially in the office.
the first question, if i recall, was why is NYC having the largest income inequality in the nation. I mean, the guy ran on this issue in 2013. BdB said that he raised minimum wage, blah blah blah.. BUT a democratic socialist wouldn't have a clue how to fix economy, let alone understand the forces behind income inequality which is why it will stay and likely grow more apart. It has much to do with artificial manipulation of the markets (such as housing markets), and institutionalization that results from it ( people staying in their projects all their lives). He kept using buzzwords like fight corporations, " money in the wrong hands", using his son for millionth time to win the race card. He's a smooth talker, but thankfully people see through it.

Two things come to mind:
1. I'm sure that once in office, they suddenly discover that things are more complicated and less amenable to quick change than they expected.
2. As Cuomo said, you campaign in poetry but govern in prose.

DeB is not a socialist-democrat nor does he claim to be one.
The income inequality gap is what it is in the city because we can't grow the middle class - specifically that third and 4th tier. the last 20 yrs of republican leadership (gulianni/bloomberg) implored a watered down version of trickle-down economics - where free enterprise was encouraged and championed by the republican mayoral leadership. this benefited the upper middle class (5th tier) to an extent and weakened the saftynet for the lower tier. thanks to rezoning and corp economic deals like the barclays, fresh direct (100M to stay in the city and not to go to Jersey), Hudson Yard, and of course the Amazon deal where the city would have gotten 4K net new jobs for that 1B (this is per Amazon's admission during the public hearings). The rezoning (like with barclays) which ushered in a new level of gentrification for once middle class neighborhoods found the development doubled class sizes in schools as families moved in without new food shopping options and because of those market rates new homes and the corresponding property taxes those families can't afford a car so ... public transit is maxed out.
Don't know if a democrat socialist can 'fix' the economy but i do know what republican ledership has given us isn't working.
lucky for us DeB is not running for president ... he's just running for a cabinet post from whomever is the nominee.
