Queens is geographically the biggest borough. I was surprised BK beat it in population qhen I first found out a long time ago.
I'm not. Queens has a lot more low density areas compared to Brooklyn. Little Neck, Douglaston, Whitestone, Beechhurst, Forest Hills Gardens, Neponsit, Breezy Point... Broad Channel... Howard Beach... Mainly low density...
It’s close, but the thought of 600k is scary here.
Whatdaya expect? They've been tearing down single family homes and putting up those GD townhouses that are really four family units for years now. That and or on every single bit of land developers can lay hands on are doing the same. Just wait until the Savo Bros are finished with the Mt. Manresasite. That is an entire whole new neighborhood right there.
Quite honestly preferred SI have remained the "forgotten" borough than what is happening now. Debbie Rose and city are turning once rural and suburban SI into Queens or Brooklyn.
As have said, get the wife and kids and make tracks.
I think Queens can surpass Brooklyn if they keep building up LIC/Jamaica/Flushing etc.
The growth figures had Queens growing faster than Brooklyn for the 20th century, but the 2010 census had Brooklyn growing a lot faster while the estimates for 2018 have Brooklyn adding more people than Queens since 2010. It might actually still be a while before Queens passes Brooklyn in population.

I doubt it can happen unless Eastern Queens gets zoned for densee housing

Brooklyn will most likely surpass Chicago after 2020. At 2020, I predict Chicago ending with 2.72 million, and Brooklyn with 2.65 million. Only 70k difference.
However, Brooklyn's population density is already far ahead of Chicago. While they have similar population totals, Brooklyn only has 70.82 sq. miles versus Chicago with 227.34 sq miles. Chicago is a massive, dense city. And, it's not like Chicago is sitting on tons of undeveloped/un-populated land either. Although Chicago city limits include O'Hare, while Brooklyn has no airport. O'Hare takes up 11.9 sq miles. So, if you subtract O'Hare from Chicago's land area (227.34-11.9=215.44), Brooklyn is still about 3 times as dense (215.44/70.82)=3.04. Wow!
To answer the OP: Brooklyn is the largest Borough by population, although it might be conceivable in the long-term (20 years+?) for Queens to become #1.
