I loved Come From Away! It's so moving. I went in with a huge chip on my shoulder. I thought, "9/11 is OUR story. It's a New York story. How dare some Canadians talk to us about 9/11?" But I soon changed my mind!
As far as staying cool in this heat wave: Yesterday I made a real sacrifice. A friend and I were going to take the ferry to Dumbo and partake in one of the happy hours offered by local restaurants. But I judged it too hot for the ferry! (If I can't sit up on top, it's not worth it to me.)
Crazy how it midtown its 80 degrees while in the Bronx its 93 degrees. That's a big difference for 8 miles.
Central Park acts as one large heat sink, more so especially because of the resevoir. That large body of water absorbs a good amount of heat as does all the lawns, ground and other non-paved surfaces inside park.
You feel a certain difference in temps along streets that border CP (Fifth, CPW, CPS and CPN ).
On a hot day as you walk say east from Lexington towards CP you start to get a nice breeze by Madison, and certainly along Fifth.
Because temps are slightly cooler in CP (especially around reservoir and certain other areas) you find even with the heat people are still out there jogging, biking or whatever for exercise.

I know this about central park, I am there several times a week. This was in midtown though.

Depending upon several factors that "heat sink" affect radiates outwards from CP. Much would also depend upon where in mid-town we're talking about as well.
Parts of that area have been torn up and given over to various pedestrian plazas complete with greenery and other things that can help negate effects of heat.
