This anti-short-term-rental stuff infuriates me.

The reasons for the short-term rentals flurries are:
- NYC is so expensive that a lot of ordinary people scramble for money
- Hotels are wildly expensive

Does anyone remember when the city rescinded a hotel tax to make rooms more affordable for tourists, and then hotels instantly raised their prices so that the cost to tourists stayed the same?

There has to be some way of cracking down on the bad elements exploiting the AirB&B mentality while still allowing residents to make some occasional money.

That's right. They got attention---someone even made a post on CD about them. Most ads go largely ignored.

I don't agree. First, NYC hotels aren't any more wildly expensive than any other world capital.

Second, I don't want AirBnb hosts renting out apartments in my daughter's secured apartment building. Sorry, private homes are okay, apartment buildings with doormen are a grey area, apartment buildings without doormen are never okay.
