folks - can anybody identify what beach this is? In the map, it's a little bit east and driving back from the rockaways I saw quite a few people resting there but didn't see any swimmers. Has anybody been there?
It’s a beautiful beach. It’s usually used for fishing but Ive seen people swim there. I usually see it on my way back from Rockaway and it always looks so inviting.
The pin points to floyd bennet field, it used to be an airport, now serves as a bunch of recreational activities for the public and part of it is occupied by a few city departments.
Its not a beach, but there are people who might just be tanning in the sun or fishing.
I’ve never seen anyone swimming in or around the area, and Ive been going there since Im 12 years old.
Thats Floyd Bennett Field property. It's Federal Parks Property.
Sure you can drive there and park and possibly use the beach but i'm sure the US Parks Police will come by often to check you belong there. If you want to use it legally you might have to apply for a camping permit.
I actually took the Q35 bus over the Marine Pkwy Bridge to Jacob Riis Beach and I saw that beach the OP is referring to. Based on the map, the area pinpointed is in a park, but I saw it with my own eyes, there was sand and a lot of people sunbathing.

Looks like a beach, Im sure you can enjoy it like one. But not once in my lifetime bas anyone told me “Lets go to floyd bennet beach” or “I was at floyd bennet beach last weekend”. LOL
I know people kayak and all of that, but I would not actually go in that water. That's bay water. Are there lifeguards there? I would be wary of any currents no matter how flat or lack of waves there are.
It's part of Gateway National recreation area. You can swim, kayak or fish there without permits.
