Some people multi-task. Pooch is taken out for a walk while they also run errands.
Then there is the fact you can be out with the pooch and passing store or something realize you need a milk or something. Taking Fido all the way back home, then going back to the store could work if you lived right across/down the street. But otherwise it gets old.
Here on UES people don't give an eff about those signs posted in stores; they bring Fido into supermarkets, food stores, convenience stores (Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, etc..) and dare anyone to say boo. Have seen everything from small terriers to large German shepherds.

Back in the 60's N.Y. mom's would leave the stroller outside with child on board
while running into grab a bottle of milk. How times.....er.........people have changed.
