When I was 25 I lived in a studio apartment in the Van Nest section of the Bronx. At 4am in the morning the area was perfumed by the hunger inducing scent of bread baking from several small and one large bakery. Oh, I still remember that heavenly smell. This City often smells like puke but at times it's delightful.
Seafood section of chinese supermarket, or just chinese seafood market like the ones in Chinatown if they are still there. I especially love the nearby sewer drains next to those places.
Brighton Beach area:
Russian food. Some pockets of urine and vomit on the sidewalks.
Coney Island area:
Chili dogs
Smell of the ocean and cigarette smoke.
Manhattan area:
Gas fumes and cigarettes .
Brooklyn:
Smell of flowers coming from all the sidewalk flower shops.
Sight of twin towers:
If peace had a smell that would be it.
I love N.Y.C.
