If you arrived at JFK airport now at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon, and needed to get to a location right around Empire State bldg. 33rd/Fifth ASAP - and had to choose between an Uber and the subway system, which would you choose? Why?
Neither.
Uber is scum. And a waste of money. And a bad choice environmentally.
I haven't ever done the subway, but think it's silly for someone who is unfamiliar with the city and carrying luggage.
I'd take the airport shuttle bus for about $20. It'll drop you somewhere in the vicinity of 42nd Street, likely near Grand Central, and you can take a taxi down to 33rd. The Super Shuttle also exists, although people don't use it much, and it would take you right to your destination.

Airtrain to Jamaica and transfer to LIRR which takes you straight into Penn station, few blocks from ESB. Pretty easy trip.
My first choice would be air train to LIRR (NOT city subway). It is very predictable in the sense that it is not traffic dependent
My second choice would be yellow cab due to their flat fare to Manhattan
My dead last choice would be an Uber. You pay more vs. yellow cab (sometimes 2x) and still sit in traffic. Uber drivers tend not to be that good. They dont know the city and can't cut around traffic jams if need be, just sit there staring at their GPS.
I've taken it to/from frequently - it is definitely closer to $11 than $25! (ea. way) Peak is $15.75 total, off-peak (depending on how/when you buy) is $9.50 to $12.75 total.
Depends , google says it will take u 40 min driving from jfk to Empire State Building while mta which will be about 1 hour if you take Airtrain to LiRR. The public transit route would be much cheaper but if you want peace of mind without transferring train to train etc then Uber it is ( price would be 50 something )
Damn...$50 just to get from jfk to midtown, what a rip off.
Uber drivers are scary..oh no..bring your daddy with you, i guess.
Some of them are pretty wild though. I had one that kept slamming on his breaks.
