City looks so different, nearly 70 years ago now!

Family garages and basements are full of those old lawn chairs. *LOL*

Opinion:

Those kids were playing ( Skellzeeeeee ) as we called it.
Wonderful game. Bottlecaps filled with candle wax or glass ring off the top of an empty beer bottle.
How many have made it to King with the unforgettable " I declare War !" before bashing all the opposing caps off the street.
The game was ferocious. Playing in the middle of the street while watching out for passing cars. Hahahaha. Gotta
love it! Those were undoubtedly the best of times. Keep your Play Station.......wouldn't trade those days for the World !

Young kids today just don't know.....

Coming up in the 70's and 80's we were hardly ever in the house. Weather had to be *really* bad to keep us indoors, and or our mothers not to throw us out! Hahahaha.

We played games (with what we had or used our minds), rode our bikes every where (not a helmet in sight), and in general had a blast.

By six or so PM when dads started arriving home that was sure clue dinner would be on the table soon. For an hour or so streets were empty, but especially in summer/not school nights we kids would be back outside again until called inside for bath/bed.

Glad to know that I was not alone.

Skellzee, ring-a-levio very rough sport. We had a blast. Damn right about our mom's. We weren't allowed in the house until dinner then back outside until bedtime. I wouldn't trade it for anything they do today.

I love that video: give it up for thum inner city white kids! Yee-Haw!

The old man taking his meds. LOL. He was probably playing cards with the fellas on the corner and his wife comes down to feed him his digitalis, the way they part ways is classic.

Anyone got a bead on neighborhood or areas show in clip?

Am thinking Washington Heights or at least upper Manhattan above Harlem.

P.S.

Growing up spent many a night on a bed with "springs" like what those two guys were hauling up and down stairs. Grandparents, older aunts, uncles, other older peoples homes.... Well into the 1990's you could still find those old springs in basements, garages, junk yards, etc....

About ten or so years ago a group of old tenement buildings in Yorkville area was clearing out their cellars. Stuff that hadn't see light of day since prior to WWI was hauled out into dumpsters. Old baby carriages, and yes those wire frame bed springs. *LOL*

Based on the cars, this film looks around 1962ish. No one was playing outside in my neighborhood in the 1970s, unless they wanted to be shot. I remember skully too.
