SI is a dumping ground for NYC, they dump the garbage down there. Use it for MTA bus depot and at one point they wanted to build a NASCAR race track down there what a ridiculous idea.
What SI needs is better transportation such as extra bridge and even a train system going there just like other boroughs have. Why is SI the only boro not to have subway?

Aren't we up on the latest Staten Island news... There's no more garbage dump. It was closed YEARS ago...
How come nobody has ever thought of getting them out of NJ and putting them in Staten Island???
Because nobody wants to go to Staten Island FOR ANY REASON.
for ABG:
In the last fiscal year, the Staten Island Ferry cost taxpayers $4.86 per passenger, each way
I didn’t mention the ferry at all. Also, you realize it’s federally funded right? You keep posting as if we would lose all this stuff most of what you mention is either federal or state funded/owned.
The city doesn’t control any of Staten Island’s bridges. You obviously didn’t know that.
Smaller tax base. Right now their part of a larger City. Now they would have to fund their own schools, roads, municipal employees, water, sewer, etc. If you had to pay more would you still move to SI ?
As far as I remember, Staten Island gets less from the city than they contribute in taxes to begin with, although it is tricky to calculate.
While you guys mention water, sewers, bridges, roads, and the ferry, those are fairly small line-items in the budget. Most money is spend on NYC public schools, various social HRA programs, homeless services, MTA, etc that Staten Island doesn't benefit from at all. Very little of NYC budget is spent on infrastructure.
