Crews continue to investigate and cleanup a massive sewer backup in South Jamaica this weekend in which more than 80 homes were flooded with raw sewage.
Officials from the Department of Environmental Protection said on Sunday that the mess was the result of a clogged or collapsed sewer main.
Well, hmm. The DEP tried to blame this whole thing on residents, claiming it was cooking grease from residents that clogged drains. Turns out it was a collapsed pipe.
It's really obnoxious that they did the blame game before properly investigating. Sounds corrupt.

The city has admitted that a collapsed pipe, not kitchen grease, caused the accident that affected more than 100 homeowners in Queens.
I would like to know what the city does every time there's a water main break in Manhattan, I never hear of any compensation (if there were any damages to property) in those instances.
