Policing should be focused on violent people such as thieves, murderers, and rapist.

The NYPD built up a lot of public bad will in arresting non-violent people for drug offenses and prostitution. Clearly incarcerating lots of poor people for non-violent things does not make the city safe.

You'd need a more aggressive approach to sentencing for violent criminals. Potentially the death penalty in some cases. I'm speaking of murderers obviously. For other cases, addressing socioeconomic issues such as welfare reform and the access to job market MUST be done if people are serious about dealing with crime.

It'll be nice to see or hear about Leftists like Astorian31 become victims of the system they love so much. (And with crime continue to rise and quality of life decline in the upcoming years, the chances will be great that he and his Leftist friends do become victims at some point.)

Sadly, as brainwashed as they are, even after becoming victims they will still refuse to acknowledge or understand the causes. How a clearly faulty philosophy (progressive liberalism) can turn otherwise intelligent people to become such mindless devotees I can never understand.

All progressive either becomes a victim or gets tired of paying for it all with nothing to show for improvement. All the progressive policies the last 3-4 decades haven't improved the city much at all. The only thing that changed the city was gentrification and that is a capitalist movement which progressives hate.

Less government and less taxes the city cleans itself up and trends higher. Progressives fails to recognize that gentrification is the catalyst to NYC's rise has nothing to do with any government policies.

Though gentrification happened due to government policies too. Tax credits helped lure companies back into large areas. Giuliani and Bloomberg strategically had the police patrol certain areas so people felt safe coming in them, and with more people with money coming in these areas investors came.

Giuliani removing porn and hookers from Time Square so Disney would invest and attract tourists and hotels was indeed government policies. Conservative government policies ,and on those fronts he and Bloomberg achieved their goals.
