You work hard only to have the free-spending socialist city government take from you (through higher taxes, fees, tolls, parking/speeding tickets, etc.) and then turn around and blow it all away on freebies for the crooks, criminals, felons, welfare queens, lazy, homeless, illegals, etc.

You have to be stupid to stay.
This is what happens when you ignore the middle class. Sure there may be millions here but I'm sure it'll come to a tipping point when too many illegals and homeless populate after the majority of the middle class and rich have left.

I left in the middle of 2018. I didn't realize how unhappy I was in nyc until well after being in my new town for several months. I definitely plan to visit but never to live there again. Upstate isn't any better either. Still same high taxes but lower wages.

It was incredibly frustrating to be a working person not able to even afford certain rooms because of your credit alone. Even if you had a decent income. And I always feel it is so easy to end up in the ever expanding shelter system there.

The long subway commutes that always had delays weren't any fun to be on either.

All you will hear on this forum that people WANT to be near a subway, not that the subways are CONSTANTLY delayed. I would love to see what sort of commutes these people have where their subway rides are so quick.

I live in Lackawanna County, near Scranton. Nearly half my neighbors use to live in NYC or Long Island.

I'm retired and finally I realized it's time for this native New Yorker to leave
My beloved state if I want to survive. I cannot afford to live here.
Thank you Gov Cuomo oh and you too Mayor Diblasio on making
New York State and City only for the rich. And for forcing us poor retired
Schleps to get out.

Florida doesn't really count. Most are retired snowbirds who've decided not to return to NY. VA & NC get a pretty hefty chunk of the transplants from NYC. Amazed that the Brooklyn accent actually still exists.

Majority of people who are high earners are changing their residency but continues to fly into NYC.

Telecommuting was always around but because of recent tax changes by the Fed and cost of living people are aggressively moving.
I used to do this. The one hour flights in both directions are actually faster than my daily driving commutes during rush hour was.
